Canadian Teen Accused of $13M Crypto Scam Financing Miami Luxury Lifestyle
A 19-year-old Canadian national stands accused of orchestrating a sophisticated crypto fraud scheme that allegedly siphoned over $13 million from victims' digital accounts and cryptocurrency wallets. Trenton Richard David Johnston, who had overstayed his visa in the U.S., allegedly operated the scam from Miami while funding luxury vehicles, jewelry, and nightlife expenditures.
Prosecutors claim Johnston and accomplices impersonated support representatives from major tech and crypto companies, using social engineering tactics to convince victims their accounts were compromised. The Department of Justice emphasizes these are currently allegations, with all defendants presumed innocent until proven guilty.
